Week Seven: Weather and Seasons
English Club students learning about Weather and Seasons
 

Time allotment

Materials Needed
7 minutes
Review introductions; get all kids in a circle to introduce themselves.
 
“Hello, my name is ______________. I am ___________ years old. I am from ____________, Ukraine. I like _____________, but I don’t like ___________.”
 
 
10 minutes
Introduce new words:
Seasons: Use flash cards to introduce the four seasons; have students match the four seasons with the pictures that depict them (or with translations). Students will then use the model sentences to tell which season we are in now, and which season is their favourite.

15 minutes
Introduce new words:
Weather: Use flash cards to introduce the weather words; have students match the words with the pictures that depict them (or with translations). Students will then use the model sentences to tell what the weather is now, and which season experiences which kinds of weather.
 
·         Weather flash cards
·         Model Sentences (see below)
15 minutes
4-Corners Activity:
Each student is given a sheet of paper; he/she must fold the paper into four boxes. (See the example)

In each box, he/she will write “In ____________(season), the weather is ____________ (weather word).”
 
For example: “In winter, the weather is snowy.”
Then the students will illustrate each season and its weather in the remaining space.

"First Steps of English" Week Two: Like and Dislike

Example "Verb" Flash Cards and Matching Activity
 

Time allotment

Materials Needed
8 minutes
Review the following:
My name is ____________.
I am ____________.
I live in ________________.
 
Use the paper ball toss method to have all students introduce themselves aloud.  Students can also watch Gogo cartoon: #2 What’s His Name
 
 
·         Paper ball
·         Model sentences written on board
·         Gogo cartoon #2
10 minutes
Introduce new focus vocabulary for verbs.
Have students repeat and match the meaning to the appropriate picture.
 
Students can write the new words in their exercise books (if they have brought them).
 
·         Verb flash cards
10 minutes
Write the following sentences on the board:
I like _______________ but I don’t like ___________________.
(мені подобається_________, але мені не подобається _________________.)
 
Have students verbally construct and recite sentences on what they like and do not like to do.
 
·         Chalkboard or whiteboard
·         Chalk or markers
15 minutes
Give students each a sheet of white paper. Have them fold the paper into four boxes. In the first box, they must write their introduction (as seen in the first row above); in the second and third boxes they must write and illustrate “I like ____________.”; in the last box, they must write and illustrate “I don’t like _________________.”  (See examples) This is called a "Four Corners" Activity.

5 minutes
Get the students in a circle for one last time before they go home to review their introductions and their likes and dislikes verbally.  (You may wish to use the paper ball toss method.)
